Chuang Yen Monastery

Today Tim and I needed to get out of the house because our new windows were being put in. We had been discussing going to the Buddhist monastery that is about 10 minutes from our house since we have moved in, but had not gotten a chance to go yet. So since we put it on our summer list 'o things to do today seemed like the perfect chance. So off we headed to the Chuang Yen Monastery.

The monastery is home the the largest indoor Buddha in the Western World and Europe. The Buddha is housed in the main building on the monestary which stands at the end of a long path lined my statues.

The Great Buddha surrounded by over 10,000 small Buddhas.
We were unable to go into the Great Buddha Hall due to a ceremony that was about to begin. I did however get an okay picture through the glass doors in the front. Tim also promised that we could come back again so we could go inside and get a better look...and better pictures at the Buddha and the thousands of others that surrounded him. I can't wait!

Some of the grounds of the Chuang Yen Monastery.

It was so beautiful and I highly recommend a trip if you are ever in the area! Plus on Sundays you can go for a veggie lunch with the monks!
Big huge fishy...and cute lil turtles!

YAY to another one of our summer to do tasks completed!

After the monestary we went over to Coldspring to wander around the antique shops and have a bite to eat. We ate lunch in a lil cafe and then drove down to Garrison. Down at the Garrison train station we discovered a great view of West Point.
