Funday Sunday...on Saturday

After 4 straight weekends of painting the house we decided it was time for some fun...hence Funday Sunday. There was a problem with Funday Sunday...we already had plans on Sunday to go to a wedding! Thus Funday Sunday had to be held on Saturday....

The day started off with sleeping in late and then heading up to Red Hook to Greig Farm for some apple picking :-)

Tim looking gi-nourmous next to a lil tree and holding a tiny apple

After picking our apples we found out that the red and white raspberries were still good for the pickins'

YUM-O

Part of the view from the farm...

After a couple of hours at the farm we decided to class up our day by spending some time at Vanderbilt Mansion in Hyde Park:
The Main House
The view from the back of the house

The back porch!
One of the outer houses next to the formal gardens
Part of the formal gardens...not looking bad for the middle of October...I wish mine looked that good in the spring!

The rose garden in the lower parts of the Formal Italian Garden

and some more flowers...just 'cause i like to photograph them!

after wandering around the gardens we set out to explore a bit more...White Bridge

The historic Hyde Park Train Station...it is only open on Mondays for tours, but peeking in the window we saw an old 'vending machine' that dispensed apples! Apples seems to be one of the themes of Sunday Funday on a Saturday :-P

On our looooong day we also did a drive through of the grounds of Franklin D Roosevelts home. I had been before and Tim could not remember if he had so we quickly drove the grounds...we didn't get out if the car because touring 2 historical homes is not Tim's idea of a good time (i tend to disagree....brings back memories of colonial camp :-P )

"All that is within me cries out to go back to my home on the Hudson River" FDR

Back in the car we go on a mission to find the Hyde Park Brewery...Tim and I have a soft spot in our hearts for any local...or national/international brewery...what can I say we are Irish!

We had a pint and some apps and headed back on our merry way. The plan was to go home...however every time we are in the Po-Town area and pass the bowling alley we laugh at the fact that the Holiday Lanes Bowling Alley has a huge sign that says:
What can I say...when we were 14 and 16 heading up to the Po-town Galleria this was very funny...actually it is still funny. So funny it lead us to finally after almost 12 yrs of laughing at their signing going in and checking out what the Hoe Bowl is all about...believe it or not it is actually nice inside as far as bowling places go!

We both suck...but Tim just a little less so than I do :-P

We are hoping to continue our Funday Sunday adventures at least once a month...or maybe we will just sleep in ;-)
